Klondike
Derby Dog Sled Designs
|
|
These are two designs that have
been built by out troop. The first is a design that apparently originated from BSA
materials, a multitude of photocopy generations ago. It is a pretty simple design, but if
screwed and glued together it will hold together pretty well. The Minnesota Flyer is
my design, and features improved cross-bracing and stronger railings. It was glued and
screwed together, and has been through 5 Klondike derbies of hard use and is still in good
shape.

Boy Scout Trek
Carts
|
|
Scout Trek Cart plans
 | These are equipment carts built using cast-off buggy
wheels (as in "Horse", not "Baby"). These carts were popular in the
early decades of Scouting, before every family owned a car, and were used to haul
equipment for camping outings. From the book "Outdoor Boy Craftsman", which
contains literally hundreds of really neat projects for boys in this book. Makes me wish I
was 12 years old again :^) In HTML for online viewing. |
Trek Cart files
 | Individual Word document and JPG files. Images are too
large for optimum viewing on-screen, but they print out very well to provide clear working
diagrams. zip file - 547k |
 | Trek Cart Document - This article is available in Word for
Windows 6 format, ready to print. As it is quite a large file, I have not stored it on my
web site. If you would like it send me an e-mail and I will make it available. zip

The Pine Tree
Patrol

The Pine Tree Patrol Handbook
 | The Pine Tree Patrol Handbook by James Austin Wilder,
available thanks to the archives and generosity of George Hay Kain, III (ghkain@cyberia.com). This booklet details a
"System of Orderly Camping" which uses Scout Trek Carts as a central element. A
suite of methods and drills covering scout camping, cooking and first aid. These skills
are used for competitions between patrols. An interesting look into the use of Trek Carts
and Scouting history. Word for Windows, version 6, format. zip: 507K |
Pine Tree Diagrams
 | A file containing only the GIF diagrams for The Pine Tree
Patrol Handbook. Full resolution for better printing by a graphics viewer. zip: 551K
|
Green Bar Bill
 | Facsimiles of a letter from William Hillcourt (Green Bar
Bill), along with scans of a poster and program page from the 1920 International Jamboree,
referencing scout trek carts in a competition. Word for Windows, version 6, format. zip:

Safari '91
 | The event guide describing the York-Adams Area Council's
"Safari '91 - Trek Cart Challenge". This was an event incorporating
the use of
Trek Carts and Pine Tree Patrol-style competitions into the weekend activities. Word for
Windows, version 6, format. zip: 63k
